In this guide, I will demonstrate how to change the password on a VPS running the Linux operating system (Ubuntu). The process on other Linux versions is similar to the following steps:
First, in the VPS management panel, go to Console -> Select Launch HTML5 Console.
The HTML5 Console window will open.
Then, go back to the panel, and under the Action section, select Hard Reboot.
In the Console window, when the system begins to reboot, quickly press the Esc key. If successful, the screen will display as follows:
At the Ubuntu line, press the “E” key to edit. Then find the line containing linux.
Change the content to rw init=/bin/bash.
Next, press F10 to boot the system.
Once the system has finished booting, enter the command: passwd root
Then, type the new password.
Note: When entering the password, no characters will be displayed on the screen. This is a security measure during login on Linux systems.
It is recommended to use a strong password that includes uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
If the password is successfully changed, the message “password updated successfully” will appear.
Finally, reboot and try logging into the VPS with the information you just updated.
